I find that the sound quality through the cans is superb when listening to music from the PC it also seems to sound fine when playing back my recordings, and if I plug the headphones directly into the Captor X it sounds excellent. Bear in mind the signal is still coming through the Captor X with the same IRs or cab sims. Somehow it's thinner and more lo-fi while also having an annoying brightness. However, the sound quality on the direct monitor setting is not so great. Getting rid of that routing delay was absolutely critical.

I also had issues early on with the latency of running everything into the pc, until I found the "direct monitor" setting on the interface. I also added an extra paper filter layer onto the DT770 drivers to cut some of the brightness which was a challenge early on. I initially struggled with getting used to playing into headphones, but I have since acclimated to that for the most part. I'm very happy with the flexibility of the Captor X, and have been able to dial in some pleasing tones when playing through the monitors. I'm running that into my interface (Focusrite Scarlett Solo mk3) and either through some Beyerdynamic DT770 80 ohm headphones or my old inexpensive monitors that I like the sound of. I recently moved and my current situation requires me to play as silently as possible much of the time, and playing is the only outlet I have for the time being, so I'm running my tube amps (Mark V and TC-50) into a Two Notes Torpedo Captor X for a direct solution.

Over the last 25 years I've been accustomed to playing through amps in the room, loudish or even at super low "bedroom" volumes for practice. I apologize in advance for the long post but I wanted to be as clear as possible up front about everything I've tried. I'm having some trouble with sound quality when playing through headphones, and I'm hoping some folks may have some advice.
